Moving towards ownership of prescriptions and medical records

BlockMed is a decentralized digital identity infrastructure for the healthcare system, built on the Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) and Verifiable Credentials standards. It enables patients, professionals, and organizations to exchange critical information —such as licenses, credentials, prescriptions, or proof-of-attendance records— in a secure, verifiable, real-time manner, without relying on centralized databases. With BlockMed, every actor retains sovereignty over their data, reducing the fragmentation, errors, and lack of trust that currently characterize the system.

Through an interoperable architecture that connects professional associations, federations, medical centers, pharmacies, and insurers, BlockMed establishes a new standard for validating identities and permissions exactly at the point where interactions occur. From license verification during a video consultation to issuing e-prescriptions in clinics or private practices, the platform ensures that every action is backed by authentic credentials. The result is a more reliable, efficient ecosystem aligned with modern digital identity regulations in Latin America and Europe.

BlockMed works as a standard and a digital identity platform based on SSI, enabling user onboarding and the validation of identities and credentials across the healthcare system. Through its SSI application, professionals and patients generate their digital identity (DID), receive verifiable credentials issued by authorized entities —such as professional associations or healthcare providers— and present them securely in each interaction.

BlockMed does not store personal information; it simply provides the decentralized infrastructure that allows every identity and credential to be verified in real time as authentic, valid, and up to date, supporting trustworthy workflows both in person and online.

Yes, BlockMed is designed to integrate with existing systems, adding an extra layer of trust and traceability to current transactions.

BlockMed is developed under the W3C’s Self-Sovereign Identity standard, and leverages the framework developed by QuarkID.
